Mary Beth Barone (born May 28, 1991)[2] is an American comedian, writer, and actress. She is best known for her appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon[3] and Ride,[4] the podcast she co-hosts with Benito Skinner. Barone stars as Grace Scanlon in the Prime Video show Overcompensating. Barone was named one of "10 Comics to Watch for 2025" by Variety.[5]
Early Life
Barone was born in Stamford, Connecticut, where she grew up as the youngest of six children in a large Catholic family.[6] She studied at Boston College to become an English teacher, but dropped out in 2012 and moved to New York City.[7]
Career
In 2021, she began hosting the pop culture podcast Obsessed with Benito Skinner on Spotify[8] before launching their new podcast, Ride, in 2023 with Dear Media. Ride was named one of the best podcasts of 2023 by The Atlantic.[9]
Barone starred in Mickey Rapkin's 2023 dark comedy short film, The Anne Frank Gift Shop[10] which was shortlisted for an Oscar.[11]
Thought Provoking, Barone's first full-length stand-up special, was released in March 2024.[12] She starred in, and was a staff writer for, the Prime Video and A24 comedy series, Overcompensating.[13]
Personal life
Barone identifies as bisexual.[14][15]
