Mascara Streakz is the fourth studio album by the Scottish new wave band Altered Images, released on August 2022 by Cooking Vinyl in the UK. Produced by Stepehn Lironi and Bernard Butler, it features the singles "Mascara Streakz", "The Other Side" and "Glitter Ball", and was the band's first album for almost 40 years.
Overview
After reforming Altered Images to take part on a number of retro 80's tours, Clare Grogan, and her husband Stephen Lironi, reflecting on life during Covid lockdown, decided to make the first Altered Images album in 39 years.
Inspired by Kraftwerk, Simple Minds’ Empires And Dance and Tom Tom Club, music Grogan loved as a 17 year old, they decided to record an album that had, what Grogan described as "that kind of pop sensibility, but was still quite edgy". [3]
Written at their home studio, they were joined by friends Robert Hodgens from The Bluebells, who co-wrote Beautiful Thing with Grogan, and Bernard Butler, who co-wrote Glitter Ball with Grogan. All four penned the opening track on side 2 of the record, Home, which was written at Butler's home.[4]
Most of the album was produced by Lironi, who has a host of previous production credits: [[Black_Grape |Black Grape], Hanson, Annabella Lwin, AudioWeb and Bourgie Bourgie. Bernard Butler Producing tracks 4 and 6.[5]
Three singles were released from the album. The title track, Mascara Streakz, Glitter Ball and The Other Side. None charted, but the album reached 28 in the UK Album Charts.[6]
