Mass State Lottery is a 2022 American comedy film and crime thriller film written and directed by Jay Karales, professionally known as comedian and experimental filmmaker LowRes Wünderbred.[1] Starring Jay Karales, Hans Lam Barboza, Nicholas Goroff, Yuna Kim, Buddy Duress, Sheila Ball, Austin Wright, Kenney Dorcely, and Jake Hanrahan.

Plot[edit]

A private investigator manipulates a grieving mother to save his dying business and stumbles upon a pattern of murders.

The film is inspired by Boston cases in the smiley face murder theory.

Filming[edit]

The film's principle photography began in the first week of March 2020 and ran through November 2021 in New York City (Queens, and Manhattan), Boston, Massachusetts, Quincy, Massachusetts, and Seoul, South Korea.[2][3]

Casting[edit]

The principle cast of Jay Karales, Hans Lam Barboza, Jacob A. Miller, Kenney Dorcely, and Jerry Jensen - collectively known as the comedy troupe Headshot, LLC., was announced to headline the feature in early 2020.

In July 2020 journalist and Popular Front founder Jake Hanrahan was cast as conspiracy theory podcaster John Doyle.

Eric Roberts was initially cast as the film's antagonist Frances Zëger, but was later dropped due to practical effects being used to physically construct the villain.

In January 2022 Buddy Duress was announced to have signed on to play an ex-convict named Ivan, marking his return to acting.

Release[edit]

Mass State Lottery will be released in December 2022. The first theatrical trailer was released on YouTube May 6, 2021.[4]
