Massimo De Carlo, sometimes stylized as MASSIMODECARLO, is a contemporary art gallery with outlets in Milan, London, Paris, Beijing, and Hong Kong. Established in 1987 by Massimo De Carlo, it represents a variety of artists.[1] [2] Its exhibitions are of contemporary themes and movements. The artists represented include Maurizio Cattelan, Yan Pei-Ming, Jennifer Guidi, and Ferrari Sheppard. Massimo De Carlo participates in major art fairs, promoting innovative contemporary art.[3]

History and expansion

Massimo De Carlo established his first contemporary art gallery in Milan in 1987. A second space was subsequently opened in Milan, and then in London in 2009, Hong Kong in 2016[4] and Paris (on Rue de Turenne) in February 2021.[5] Inspired by a concept introduced by art dealer Lucio Amelio in 1989, the Paris space has exhibitions focusing on a single artwork. Its first exhibition showcased "Clay Baby" by Kaari Upson, a piece visible both day and night through the gallery's window.

In March 2024, Massimo De Carlo opened a new space in Gangnam-gu, southern Seoul.[6] The Seoul Studio started by presenting works by European artists Carsten Höller and Peter Schuyff. Among the works was Höller's "Giant Triple Mushroom," a sculpture integrating elements of a fly agaric mushroom with parts of two other mushroom types. This motif has been a recurring theme in Höller's work throughout his career.[7]
