Massy Ferguson
Massy Ferguson is an American, Americana rock band formed in Seattle, Washington in 2005. The band is composed of Ethan Anderson (vocals, bass), Adam Monda (guitar, vocals), Dave Goedde (drums), and Fred Slater (keyboards). The band is said to have a style similar to Tom Petty and The Hold Steady.[1]
Massy Ferguson originally started as a duo, with Ethan Anderson and Adam Monda writing songs on acoustic guitars in 2005. Anderson and Monda chose the name Massy Ferguson because they were looking for something "big and badass" and soon landed a show playing the Mukilteo Farmer’s Market, allegedly playing for a basket of fruit.[2] The duo became a full band by adding members Dave Goedde, a former bandmate of Monda's from the Seattle band Fragile Jack [3] and keyboard player Tony Mann. The band played a few gigs in 2006 and then started to regularly play Seattle’s Tractor Tavern after that. Fred Slater joined the band in 2015 as a keyboard player after the departure of Mann. In the early years, the band performed regularly with pedal steel player Jason Kardong of Son Volt, Matt Costa, and Sera Cahoone. In 2016, their single "Making It" premiered as an exclusive on The Huffington Post. [4] In recent years, the band has garnered praise from the Americana community, particularly with outlets like No Depression Magazine,[1] and tastemakers such as acclaimed national DJ Nic Harcourt and his "Connections" series.[5] Their 2019 album "Great Divides" charted nationally, making the top 10 Americana albums list on stations such as WCNI in New London, Connecticut,[6] KDHX in St. Louis, Missouri,[7] and on KEXP in Seattle, Washington[8]
Massy Ferguson has toured internationally in 9 different countries.[9] In 2010, the band won the Seattle Weekly/KEXP Iceland Airwaves band poll and were flown to Iceland to play the Iceland Airwaves Festival.[10] The band has toured the United Kingdom many times and in 2016 signed to At The Helm Records based in Brighton, UK.
