Mat Davidson is an American singer-songwriter. Davidson has played with bands such as The Low Anthem, The Deslondes and Spirit Family Reunion. Since the mid-2000's, he has recorded solo work under the name Twain.[1]

Davidson has worked with the indie rock band Big Thief in the past, performing as an opening act at their first show [2] and performing on multiple songs on their 2022 double album, Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You[3].

History[edit]

Davidson was born in Roanoke, Franklin County, Virginia [4] [5]. He attended Berklee College of Music for mandolin [6]. He adopted his stage name from American author Mark Twain.[6]

In 2017, Davidson signed with Keeled Scales as Twain.[7]

In 2020, Davidson released Adventure, a "scaled-down" release following 2017's Rare Feeling[8]. The same year, Davidson recorded with Big Thief during their Tuscon sessions, contributing fiddle, piano, accordion, and vocals.

As Twain, Davidson tends to write songs that "worship being alive.. that seeks truth." [5]
