Material footprint is an indicator of the quantity of material extracted to sustain a country’s economy. It is different from domestic material consumption (DMC) as material footprint includes hidden flows while DMC does not.[1] Materiel footprint is defined as raw material equivalent of imports plus domestic extraction minus raw material equivalent of exports.[2]
