History
Matillion was founded in 2011 in Altrincham, Greater Manchester, by Matthew Scullion[6] and Ed Thompson.[7]
In 2025, Matillion announced Maia[8] - an agentic system of virtual data engineers covering the end-to-end workflow of data engineering.
Matillion released its flagship Data Productivity Cloud[9] in 2023 - a full SaaS data integration platform that was built to align with cloud data warehouses, such as Snowflake’s AI Data Cloud.
Founded in 2011, Matillion initially delivered cloud-based business intelligence and analytics, building multiple warehouses in Amazon Redshift.
In 2015, Matillion launched Matillion ETL - an early cloud-based ETL tool with a no- and low-code interface. The product, built for Amazon Redshift, launched worldwide on Amazon’s Marketplace and at Amazon’s AWS Re:Invent expo in Las Vegas.
In 2017, Matillion ETL for Google BigQuery and Snowflake[10] were released, followed by Matillion ETL for Microsoft Azure Synapse in 2020.
Matillion released Data Loader in 2019[11].
In September 2021, Matillion closed a Series E funding round, led by General Atlantic and Battery Ventures, with a valuation of $1.5bn[12].
Matillion launched Change Data Capture (CDC) and data replication capabilities in 2022[13]
Having previously had office locations in New York City, Denver, London and Altrincham (Cheshire, England), in 2024, Matillion opened headquarters in both Denver, CO, United States, and Manchester, England. The Denver HQ sits on the 21st floor of Block 162[14]. The Manchester HQ sits across the sixth and seventh floors of the New Bailey development[15]
