History

Erected about 40 km south of Bulawayo, it was named after the range of hills in which it is located. Missionaries arrived on the 6th of July 1898,[5] the school started on the 11th of October 1898 [6] and the first student was Matshuba, a thirteen-year-old boy, together with two other girls in a 16x16 tent.[7] The Brethren In Christ Church in Zimbabwe established other missions after Matopo, and these are Mtshabezi, Wanezi, Phumula and Nono Missions.

Academic Excellence

The school follows the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) curriculum, offering a comprehensive range of subjects across sciences, humanities, languages, and technical fields[8]. In 2024, the school achieved a 92.3% pass rate at Ordinary Level, with 44 students obtaining five or more A grades. At Advanced Level, the school attained a 100% pass rate, with exceptional performance in subjects like Accounting, Business Studies, and Computer Science.[4][9][10]

Students with disabilities are enrolled at the school[11][1]

It has a school library that caters for all students.

Facilities and Infrastructure

Matopo High School has invested in modern infrastructure to enhance the learning environment. The school offers both boarding and day school options, with renovated dormitories for boys and girls. In 2018, the school installed a solar water heating system, contributing to energy efficiency and sustainability.

Extracurricular Activities

The school encourages student participation in various sports, including rugby, darts, athletics, and volleyball.[2][3][5] Matopo High School's athletics team has represented Zimbabwe at national events like the CASSASA Games. Additionally, students engage in clubs such as the Environmental Club and Drama Club, fostering a well-rounded educational experience.
