Matt Cutshall (born February 13, 1985) is an American content creator, musician and business owner. He is best known for his video content on social media, being the frontman of Your Broken Hero and founding Emo's Not Dead apparel and cruise experiences.[1]
Early life
Matt Cutshall was born February 13, 1985 in Portland, Oregon'. Cutshall has a twin brother named Chris Cutshall. His parents divorced when he was 8 years old.
Career
After graduating from high school, Cutshall hosted live events for Radio Disney in Portland at 17 years old.[2] At 21 years old, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue an entertainment career. Cutshall appeared in early scenes of the hit Reality television show Vanderpump Rules, when he was working as a bartender at Sur restaurant.[3]
Cutshall was the frontman of Los Angeles-based pop band It Boys! and signed to Hollywood Waste Records. Band members included Judah Leary, Tommy Coops, Duck Leary, and Jeff Oster. The group was founded by Good Charlotte's Benji Madden and Joel Madden. Their album Introduction was released in 2012, which spawned two singles "Guys Don't Like Me" and "Burning Up". The group disbanded in 2013.[4]
Cutshall began creating comedy video content on Vine in 2013 and quickly amassed a following, resulting in collaborations with celebrities and other content creators and brand partnerships. Cutshall invested significant income from social media into real estate developments and created rental businesses.[5]
Cutshall founded the alternative rock band Emo's Not Dead , inspired by one of Cutshall's fictional comedy characters he'd been portraying on his YouTube channel since late 2018 and his catch phrase used in videos, "Emo's Not Dead". He founded an apparel brand with the same name. The band released singles such as "A Letter to Ashley", "Tommy's Face" and "Red Light Kisser".[6]
Cutshall founded Emo's Not Dead Cruise in 2022, consisting of cruises with performances by emo and alternative bands. The first cruise sailed to destinations such as Ensenada, Baja California and Nassau, Bahamas. Cruises have included performances by Plain White T's, Dashboard Confessional, Yellowcard, Mayday Parade,Underoath, New Found Glory, Thursday, Silverstein, Yellowcard, Mayday Parade, Story of the Year.[7]
Personal life
In 2017, Cutshall began a relationship with long time friend and frequent collaborator, fellow Vine star Arielle Vandenberg.[8] They had been friends since 2011, became engaged in September 2019 and married on May 21, 2023, at their friend Jason Kennedy's home. In 2020, the couple launched a podcast "Riled Up with Arielle & Matt".[9] The couple reside in Los Angeles with their chihuahua dog Stinky.[10]
