Matt Gould (songwriter)

Matt Gould is an award-winning musical theatre songwriter and performer.

Career[edit]

Gould has worked in musical theatre on the documentary musical Invisible Thread[1] (originally entitled Witness Uganda), which was presented by The ASCAP Foundation at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in September 2017[2]. He has also worked on Lempicka (with Carson Kreitzer); Free Style (LA's Reprise Theatre Company); andTwilight in Manchego (New York Musical Festival). He has written music for Lucy Thurber's Dillingham City (commissioned by Playwrights Horizons) and Dreyfus in Rehearsal (Theatre Row). Gould also did the translation, adaptation and direction for Romeo and Juliet in Pulaar in Mauritania. Some of Gould's upcoming projects include The Family Project (LA’s Center Theatre Group) and Baby Girl (with Paula Vogel).

Awards and Recognition[edit]

Gould is a 2007 recipient of the American Theatre Wing's Jonathan Larson Grant.[3] He has previously been a composing fellow in the New Dramatist’s Composer-Librettist studio, along with having composed music for Grammy winners Desmond ChildTerrence McNally, and Vanessa Williams. Gould's music has been performed at Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Saban Theatre (LA), Symphony Space (NYC), Joe’s Pub, New World Stages, Huntington Theatre Company (Boston), Rattlestick (NYC), Summit Series, and on TEDx Wall Street in 2012.[4]
