From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Matt McCann (born on September 16, 1960 in Chicago, Illinois, United States) was an American well known radio station air-personality and program director, and is now an expert on long-term care insurance and long-term care planning and a speaker on long-term care issues. He was formerly a Vice President and Divisional Sales Manager at national agencies which specialize in long-term care insurance.[1] Today he runs his own national agency, McCann Insurance Services, specializing in long-term health care planning.[2]

Early life[edit]

McCann attended Hinsdale South High School in Darien, Illinois. His love of radio started having grown up listening to legendary top 40 station WLS, Chicago. At Hinsdale South High School he joined the school's radio station, WHSD (88.5 FM), and quickly became the student station manager.

In 1976, he got his first chance to work at a commercial radio station with a weekend on-air job at WKDC (AM), Elmhurst, Illinois. By the time his senior year started, he also worked at another Chicago suburban station, WAUR (FM), in Aurora, Illinois.[3]

Career in radio[edit]

In the fall of 1978, McCann moved to Carbondale to attend Southern Illinois University, and in 1982 he received his BS degree. While in school he worked at WCIL and WCIL-FM.[4] When he graduated, the owner of WCIL offered him the job of program director[5].

In January 1986 he accepted the program director's position at WLRW in Champaign, Illinois. McCann is crediting for putting this station on the map. This top 40 station dominated in ratings and revenue for years under his leadership.

Just a few months after the birth of his son, Joe, McCann left to take the program director's job at KRNQ, Des Moines, Iowa, in the fall of 1991.[6]

In 1993 McCann went to San Antonio, Texas, where he was named program director of country-formatted KDIL [7]. Soon he was also given control of co-owned KKYX (AM). The owners changed formats at KDIL and were told to move KDIL from country to smooth jazz; KDIL became KCJZ.

In January 1996 McCann went home. ABC hired him at WLS-FM where they were about to change format of the station to country. WLS-FM became KICKS Country and McCann was the mid-day air personality and music director for the station.[8]

The station did not last long, and when ABC changed formats again, McCann moved to WUSN, Chicago and later to WUBT, Chicago. At WUBT, McCann was teamed up with legendary Chicago radio personality Larry Lujack. That show had huge ratings as Lujack had been in retirement for years before coming back to Chicago radio [9] . McCann was in the Chicago studio and Lujack worked from his home in New Mexico. Most people had no clue they were in different studios and were amazed they worked so well together.

Career in health insurance[edit]

When McCann's mother became ill, he made a major career change and went into the long-term care insurance business. He did not leave radio completely, as he did some weekend work at WLS, Chicago and suburban stations like WERV, Aurora and WJTW, Joliet.

The long-term care business took off, and he quickly established himself at a nationally known expert and speaker on long-term care issues.[10]

In 2008 McCann joined the sales management team at ACSIA Long Term Care, one of the nation's leading marketers of this type of insurance. In 2011 he was named the Divisional Sales Leader for ACSIA Long-Term Care's Western Division.

In December 2013 McCann was named Senior Vice President of LTC Financial Partners, LLC (LTCFP), one of America's largest and most experienced long-term care protection agencies. At both companies he hired and mentored agents, and developed selling techniques and sales strategies to help agents and their clients. .[11]

His company, McCann Insurance Services, has two websites. The first has information on-tong Term care planning,[12] and the second provides consumers with long-term care insurance quotes from top companies.[13][14]

In July, 2015, the American Association for Long Term Care Insurance (AALTCI) named McCann as one of the top ten long-term care specialists in the country.[15]

McCann speaks throughout the country on long-term care issues and is often interviewed on radio and TV programs as an expert on long-term health care planning.[16].
