Matt Steffanina (born October 20, 1986), is an American hip hop dancer, choreographer, and Youtuber. He is the most followed dancer in the world with over 10 million followers and a billion views on YouTube.
Matt was born and raised in a small town in Virginia and was originally a competitive snowboarder and didn’t become interested in dance until the age of 18 after watching dance videos online.[1] After winning a dance competition, he was offered the position as the head choreographer of the University of Virginia hip hop dance crew.
After doing choreography near his home state, he decided to move to Los Angeles, California to pursue a dance career full time in 2010. He started dancing and doing choreography for artists such as Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, Jermaine Jackson, Snoop Dogg, DJ Tiesto, Busta Rhymes and Tyga. He also appeared on nationally televised shows such as So You Think You Can Dance, Jay Leno, and Ellen.[2]
In 2012, he started posting videos of his dance classes on YouTube with his students, where he ended up gaining a large following and becoming a YouTube star. His videos usually consist of him and his students performing new dances he has choreographed for current hit songs. The students in Matt’s videos range from kids to adults. He’s amassed millions of subscribers and his videos have been viewed over a billion times.
In 2016, he appeared on the Amazing Race in season 28 with his fiancé and dance partner at the time, Dana Alexa. They would go on to win the competition and the million dollar grand prize.[3]
