Mattermost

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Mattermost, Inc. is an international software company founded by CEO Ian Tien and CTO Corey Hulen that builds open source workplace messaging solutions. They have two products: a free version for small teams and premium enterprise-grade solutions for large organizations.[1]

Founded in 2015, Mattermost is a largely distributed company with physical presences in Palo Alto, California and Waterloo, Ontario.

History[edit]

Mattermost grew out of a game development company called SpinPunch.[2]

In 2014, SpinPunch had trouble with the messaging app they were using. When they tried to move to a new app, they found out they weren’t able to export their data without paying for it. Instead of signing up with Slack, another proprietary messaging app, and risking a potential repeat, the company decided to take the chat features they were building for a game and turn them into an enterprise-grade open source messaging solution called Mattermost.[3]

Funding[edit]

In February 2017, Mattermost, Inc. raised an undisclosed seed round. Investors include Y Combinator, StartX and Chris Klomp.[4]
