Matthew Broussard

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Matthew Broussard is an American comedian, television host, actor, writer, and cartoonist[1][2]. He is known for his educational and science driven style of Observational comedy, as the creator of the weekly pun website, Monday Punday[3], and as the star of stand-up comedy tours and specials[4].

Early Life[edit]

Born in New Jersey, Matthew grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas, the son of a Cajun chemist. The family moved to Atlanta, Georgia where Matthew attended the Lovett School[5]. Matthew attended Rice University where he pursued a degree in Applied Mathematics.

Among his first jobs was a Financial analyst in Houston. He said later,

"A lot of people ask how I got into comedy. I was working as a financial analyst and I started doing open mics at night, that was my job at the time, it was a good job, not for humanity or anything my job was just to make rich people richer. I'd take their money and try to make it into more money."

"I actually ended up getting fired from my job as an analyst, it was one of the hardest things I've ever been through. It sucked because it wasn't my fault, what happened was my car got broken into and my work computer got stolen and it was very unfortunate timing because it happened the same week that I had been a terrible employee for three years."[1]

Matthew moved to Los Angeles, but attributes his decision to work in comedy to his early aptitude for academically charged jokes.[6]

Career[edit]

Matthew, bored at his day job, started sketching word puzzle puns and posting them weekly on his website. He began touring the comedy club circuit and performed at colleges around the United States after graduating. He appeared as one of the "New Faces" at the 2015 Just for Laughs in Montreal and was a runner up to Jimmy Carr in Jeff Ross Presents Roast Battle in 2015. In 2016 Matthew released a half hour with Comedy Central Stand-Up Presents and a full stand up album, Pedantic.
