Matthew G. Coates (born December 22, 1970) is an American architect and the founder of Coates Design Architects + Interiors, an architecture firm based on Bainbridge Island, Washington.[1][2]
Career
Coates is the president of Coates Design, Inc., established in 2005. His work and the firm’s projects have been covered by independent architecture and design publications, including Western Art & Architecture, Gray Magazine, The New York Times, ArchDaily, Amazing Architecture, Architect Magazine, Contemporist, and American Luxury.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]
Independent reporting has highlighted several of the firm’s projects, including Island Retreat, Escalante Escape, Olympia Prairie Home, and Hansen Road House.[4][5][8][6]
Coates’s work also includes the design of the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, a 20,000-square-foot facility that opened in 2013. According to the museum, the building achieved LEED Gold certification and incorporates daylighting systems, automated louvers, and recycled materials.[9]
