Matthew Dunne (born 21 April 1988) is a British technologist, entrepreneur and business leader. He is the founder of The Despatch Company (formerly Despatch Cloud), a United Kingdom-based logistics technology firm whose platforms process hundreds of millions of shipments annually and underpin billions in trade across Europe. Dunne is known for blending engineering discipline with commercial strategy. In 2025, he was named among the LDC Top 50 Most Ambitious Business Leaders – Ones to Watch, an annual list published in partnership with The Times recognising entrepreneurs and business leaders across the United Kingdom.[1]

Early life and education

Dunne grew up in East Yorkshire, England. In a 2021 interview with The Yorkshire Post, he discussed being diagnosed with dyslexia at an early age, an experience he credits with shaping his interest in technology and problem solving.[2]

At the age of 13, Dunne received local and international attention after developing a website to share information about dyslexia. The story was featured in the Driffield Post under the headline "Website wins world praise", highlighting his early interest in technology and his efforts to help others understand dyslexia.[3]

He studied Web Design and Development at the University of Hull, graduating with First-Class Honours, and later earned a Master’s degree in Cyber Security from the University of York, an NCSC-certified course focused on system integrity and resilience.

Career

Before founding his company, Dunne worked in electrical engineering within the leisure and amusement sector. He later lectured in computing and digital media at East Riding College and the University of Hull, teaching programming, digital systems, and web development.

In 2008, he founded the business that became The Despatch Company, originally established as Despatch Cloud. The firm develops technology for logistics, warehousing, and courier integration. Its platforms are used by retailers and third-party logistics providers across Europe, processing hundreds of millions of shipments and 2.1 billion items each year.[4]

Under Dunne’s leadership, the company partnered with JD International Logistics in 2022 to enhance cross-border fulfilment services.[5]

Recognition and professional roles

Dunne is a professional member of the British Computer Society (MBCS) and serves as a cyber ambassador for North Yorkshire Police, providing voluntary technical advice on cybersecurity and digital resilience.

He has also lectured and spoken at universities and industry events on fulfilment technology, product design and digital infrastructure.
