Matthew Finlan (born April 27) is a Canadian actor known for his portrayal of Jerald Baxter in the new Netflix movie Brazen. He is best known for his roles as Bart in Frankie Drake Mysteries, and Charlie Chaplin in Murdoch Mysteries with guest appearances in, but not limited to, Nurses, Grand Army, Workin' Moms, The Terror, and Brazen.

Early Life[edit]

Matthew Aaron Finlan was born in Peterborough on April 27 to Christine Quinn and Andrew Finlan. He is the youngest of 5 siblings. Matthew is a graduate of the PCVS' Integrated Arts Program in 2012 [1].

Career[edit]

Finlan began his acting career at the age of 4 performing in many local productions. Moving to Toronto in 2012 to attend the George Brown Theatre School, where he received the Dean's Award of Excellence upon graduation in 2015[1]. After graduating from George Brown, Finlan worked with professional theatre companies including The Shaw Festival, Soul Pepper, Roseneath Theatre, Buddies in Bad Times/Theatre Rusticle, and Corpus[1].

Finlan, who now divides his time between Toronto/Vancouver and the US, appeared first in television commercials leading to feature roles in film and TV. He has appeared in Spy Academy, Tiny House, The Terror, Frankie Drake Mysteries, October Faction, Hey Lady!, Workin' Moms, Grand Army, Murdoch Mysteries, Nurses, and Jingle Bell Princess. Upcoming appearances in Orphan: First Kill [2]and My Fake Boyfriend.

Premiering on Netflix at #1 January 2022, Finlan stars beside Alyssa Milano in Brazen an American thriller film directed by Monika Mitchell based on Nora Roberts's novel Brazen Virtue[3].

In addition to performing, Finlan is the co-creator of Life in a Box — a hilarious, musical journey about two best friends destined for greatness[4]. In 2020, Life in a Box won the Dora Award for Best New Musical, a show he co-created with Landon Doak.[4]
