Musical Influences[edit]

Healy stated in an interview with Teen Vogue in 2013 that his largest influences come from personal life experiences when he writes or composes his songs.[3] The best example of this can be heard in "She Lays Down" — a song inspired by a story his mother told him when he was 17 detailing the post-natal depression she had experienced earlier in her life. He opened up about how personal the songs were on their second album and that personal connection was the only reason the album has a purpose for him.[4]

He has stated that LCD Soundsystem's track "All My Friends" has been a major influence ever since it was released in 2007.[5]

Personal Life[edit]

He was in a longterm relationship with model Gemma Janes until they split in 2014. Healy is the son of actor Tim Healy and actress Denise Welch and has a brother named Louis. He is currently in a relationship with model Gabriella Brooks. Matthew was a extra in Waterloo Road .
