Matthew Knowles is an international actor and TV show host. He the first ever American Caucasian to graduate from the Beijing Film Academy, Matthew accomplished international affluence by mastering the Chinese spoken language and he did so with a scholarship from the Chinese Government. [1] [2] [3] Knowles is known for his roles in multiple Chinese TV Series, including Deng Xiao Ping, Red Sorghum, and Eastern Battlefield and have since multiplied into hundreds of roles and productions today. Films such as Time to Showand Transmigration have elevated Matthew’s status and established recurring roles in Journey To The East and Love Me If You Dare. Most recently, to be released, Knowles will star as a lead in Red Star Over China in 2016. Knowles is a graduate of Clemson University in 2008, BS (Civil Engineering)

Early Life[edit]

Matthew was born in Greenville, South Carolina where he grew up. He went to JL Mann in Greenville, SC and played soccer for most of his high school years. He went on to have a try out for the C-team football squad in 9th grade and was cut and told he was better suited for cross country racing. In 2004, he got a full ride scholarship to study Civil Engineering an Clemson as a result of his good academic standing and needs. Despite his failed try out with his high school football team, he gave football another shot at Clemson after attaining success with the schools rugby team and this time around he got in. [4]

Acting And Television Career[edit]

Matthew’s career in the entertainment industry began when he moved to Singapore and signed with Phantom Talent. Shortly thereafter, Acting, TV Hosting opportunities meant that Matthew would be called to Philippines, Malaysia, and eventually back to China. After a brief taste of Hollywood filming as a featured extra for the Hollywood/KRU studios conjunction film Vikingdom starring Dominic Purcell, Matthew returned to China where he received a Chinese government scholarship to be the first Caucasian to ever study performing arts at Beijing Film Academy. After graduating Matthew landed a role in one of the largest productions in Chinese history, Red Sorghum. Matthew moved to Los Angeles where he continued to pursue acting. He then landed the role of Barnes in the hugely successful series Love Me If You Dare starring Wallace Huo. He also booked a lead role in the Chinese epic production Red Star Over China.

Knowles has made appearances in more than 40 television shows and series across China. became one of the most popular foreign hosts in Western China. Matthew lived in Chengdu, Sichuan for two years where he hosted the weekly travel and news TV show This is Chengdu all the while honing his acting skills by taking part in a large range of movies, short films, TV series, advertisements and other entertainment ventures. Matthew speaks fluent Mandarin Chinese, English and Spanish. Knowles is the only Caucasian Beijing Film Academy actor working in LA.He holds the exclusive honor of being the only actor to have achieved such a prestigious accomplishment in Asia. Since, Matthew has found himself in the spotlight of fame when he hosted the 2015 Oscars in China and made appearances more than 100 times in television, film and theatre productions. Matthew lives and works in Los Angeles and in Beijing where he is currently working on set in multiple television and film projects. Matthew’s passion for acting was cultivated during his time in Asia and he currently resides and pursues acting opportunities based out of Los Angeles, California.
