Matthew Nicholas Stone (born January 23rd, 2003) is a semi-professional badminton player who currently plays for Bristol in the University Badminton league.
Matthew, affectionately known as 'Matty' , reached a peak rank of #172 in the UK, narrowly beating competitors such as Benjamin Kemp and Barnaby Pridmore. Most recently, he competed in Bucs Nationals, Sheffield with his fellow University teammates.
Matthew attended Bournemouth Boys School where he came to terms with his sexuality and consequentially managed to come out in June of 2021, announcing his relationship with fellow badminton player, Peter Shield.
Despite this, he managed to reach university where he studies aerospace engineering, although this is just to pass time as his real ambition is to surpass the talents of Bath badminton player, Chris Miller, and go pro.
Matty has been outspoken about the negative effects of bullying as he himself was relentlessly bullied due to his insistence of the fact that he is a saxophonist. Additionally, he is a campaigner for calf-stilts for men as he believes everyone should have an opportunity to be tall. This is likely due to the fact that he is short, although this source cannot be confirmed.
