Matthew Fredrick[2] (born September 20, 1988), known professionally as Matthias, is an American YouTuber, musician, and entrepreneur. He is known for various YouTube channels, and as the founder and CEO of the Los Angeles-based multi-channel network Hi5 Studios.[3]

Early life[edit]

Fredrick was born in Woodland Hills, California with two siblings, his sister Sarah and brother J-Fred. During high school, Fredrick became a musician after joining his first band, and met his current wife, Amanda Faye.[1]

Career[edit]

On YouTube, Fredrick began uploading videos of covers and original songs in April 2012, and soon after sketch comedy and parodies, influenced by Alex Goyette.[1][2][4] In 2013, he competed in and won the second season of Internet Icon.[5][6] Fredrick joined FameBit in 2014 for support in creating videos.[7][8]

Fredrick eventually created challenge and comment-based videos, and later rebranded to unboxing.[9] In 2015, he founded Team Edge with his brother J-Fred and brother-in-law Bryan.[10]

In 2017, Fredrick was invited to participate in YouTube Rewind, but declined, citing YouTube's lack of transparency in analytics and change in policy.[11]

Personal life[edit]

Matthias currently lives in Los Angeles, California with his wife, Amanda Faye.[12] Their daughter Luna was born July 30, 2016, and their son Atticus was born November 21, 2019.[13][14]
