Matthias Heinzel is a German businessman who has served on the Executive Board of Merck Group and leads the life science business sector as CEO since April 2021. Before joining the Merck Group, Heinzel worked for DuPont in a range of senior executive positions.[1]

Early Life

Heinzel was born in 1967 in Weinheim, Germany. He holds a master’s degree in business administration and electrical engineering from the Technical University Darmstadt in Germany and a Ph.D. in business administration from the University of Kassel in Germany[2].

Career

Matthias Heinzel started his career in 1993 at McKinsey & Company.

From 2003 to 2021, Heinzel worked for DuPont, including president of its Nutrition and Biosciences division. While at DuPont, Heinzel also supported the merger of the Nutrition and Bioscience division with International Flavors & Fragrances[3][4]

In 2021, Heinzel was appointed CEO of the life science division of Merck Group, also becoming a member of the company's executive board[5].
