History[edit]

The company was established in 1944 by the Rippon family in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire and acquired its name from the river which runs through Mansfield. In 1944, Britain had a great need for hand tools and equipment at the end of WW2. Maun focused their design of tools on William Bernard's idea of the Bernard parallel action pliers

G.H. Rippon MBE was honoured in the 1954 New Year Honours List[1]

In 2004 Maun Industries moved to their present a purpose-built 39,000 sq. ft. manufacturing works in Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire

The company was owned and run by the Rippon family until 2008 when it was purchased by another family owned company, EMLIST Ltd.[2]

Products[edit]

The company currently manufactures over 100 different products with over 1500 different variations. These include parallel action plier, side cutters, end cutting nippers, diagonal cutting nippers, wad punch kits, safety rulers, straight edges, paper punches, eyeleting pliers, to more specialist pliers used for crimping, connecting and removal tools.

Maun Industries also offers bespoke and specialised tools designed to suit customers’ needs

Parallel Action Pliers[edit]

Maun Industries speciality is in the design and manufacture of parallel action pliers. Parallel action pliers hold their position thanks to a compound box joint system, which means they provide an extremely strong grip and won’t spring back once pressure is released.

The jaws of parallel action pliers remain parallel along their entire length of the jaw so that the grip is uniform throughout its length.

The open nature of the laws also allows wire to be fed through the throat of the pliers and held along the length of the wire.
