Mauro Birattari (born June 24, 1969 in Milan, Italy) is a European computer scientist and a research director of the Fonds de la Recherche Scientifique–FNRS of Belgium's Wallonia-Brussels Federation. He is affiliated with IRIDIA, the artificial intelligence laboratory of the Université Libre de Bruxelles. His research is focused on artificial intelligence and machine learning. His main contributions are in the automatic design of algorithms and swarm robotics: he is the proponent of F-race, Iterated F-race, and AutoMoDe.
He is the recipient of an ERC Consolidator grant[1] for the project DEMIURGE on the automatic design of collective behaviors for robot swarms.
Mauro Birattari received a Master Degree in Electronic Engineering from Politecnico di Milano and a Doctorate Degree in Artificial Intelligence from the Université Libre de Bruxelles.[2]
