The mausoleum of Yesim Khan is located in the South Kazakhstan region, the city of Turkestan. The mausoleum dates back to the XVII century and is one of the architectural monuments of the Turkestan region. Khan Yessim is one of the most revered rulers of the Kazakh Khanate. His name is pronounced on a par with the name of Kasym the Great, and this speaks volumes. He kept the borders of his state in strict inviolability, rebuilt cities, and left behind a set of laws. One of his main merits is that under the new law, only elected judges – bii – can administer the court. Having learned the lessons of diplomacy well, Yesim Khan strengthened the Kazakh Khanate and managed to win back many regions from the Dzungars with the Kalmyks. Yesim managed to suppress civil strife, local separatism of the sultans and successfully repelled the attacks of the Dzungars. He ruled for a long time and died, according to Mahmud ibn Wali, in 1628. Khan Yesim was buried in Turkestan. A mausoleum was erected on the site of the grave, which partially collapsed by the beginning of the XIX century. Subsequently (in 2000) the building was restored. It is a cube measuring 9x9 m. The main facade is made in the form of a traditional portal in religious buildings, the walls are decorated with geometric patterns.
