Max Wachman (born 2 December 2003) is an Irish equestrian who competes in show jumping.Originally from Tiperary, Wachman has had many successes in his pony, junior, and senior equestrian career.
Wachman runs his stables Coolmore Showjumping, together with his two siblings Tom and Alice Wachman.
Early life and Carreer[edit]
Max was born in Tipperary to parents Kate Wachman and David Wachman.[2] He is the eldest sibling to showjumpers Tom Wachman and Alice Wachman.[3] His grandparents Susan Magnier and John Magnier are renowned thoroughbred breeders through their Coolmore Stud. [4] He was educated at Rockwell College, in Tipperary. Max currently studies a bachelor in Commerce. Wachman was introduced to the show jumping sport at an early age. Max had a very successful career in 2017 when he became part of Cian O’Connor’s Karlswood Training Program. Max quickly rose to prominence on board his, as he once described, ‘pony of a lifetime’ Cuffesgrange Cavalidam by winning the Silver Medal at the 'FEI European Pony Championships 2018' in Bishop Burton[5] winning the 'Pony World Cup 2018' in Stuttgart and by winning Double Gold Medals in both individual and team 'FEI European Championships 2019' held in Strzegom, where he shared the podium with his brother Tom Wachman.[6]
Senior Carreer[edit]
In 2021 Max participated to clinch victory alongside his brother Tom, in the Wierden 'Junior Nations Cup', at the same event Max also won the Feature Grand Prix Competition with Brooklyn. Max was then selected to jump his first 'Senior Nations Cup' under the Irish flag, with Dorette, at the age of seventeen, which culminated in a victory in the Norwegian venue of Drammen august 2021. Later on that year, Wachman made his FEI 5* Debut in during the Global Champions Tour. In 2022 Max participated in his first 'FEI Young Riders European Championships' to place fifth individually on Quintini . Max finalised his year by winning the 'FEI 4* Nations Cup in Wellington',[2]placing second in the '4* Grand Prix of Wiesbaden'[3] and went to jump clear in his first ‘FEI 5* Nations Cup’ in Knokke 'FEI 5* Nations Cup in Knokke'. [4] Undoubtably, the highlight of his career to date was to be selected to represent his home country during the ‘FEI 5* Nations Cup Dublin Horse Show’s Aga Khan Trophy’ alongside his coach Cian O’Connor, Conor Swail and Shane Sweetnam. The team were victorious and the crowd formed by 20.000 people at the RDS Arena gave them a standing ovation.
