Early Life and Career[edit]

Maya was born in Skopje of the Republic of Macedonia. Maya trained as a classical pianist from the age of 6 and moved to London to complete her musical training at The Royal College of Music in 1988. She performed as a concert pianist for many years before releasing her debut album “Cross of Silence” in 1995. Maya’s music is a fusion of Yoga mantras and hypnotic electronic sounds and features guest spots from friends and peers such as Deepak Chopra. Maya has co-written the soundtracks for the motion action pictures Onegin (1999), Preaching to the Perverted (1997) and The Works (1996). After launching her yoga career in 2003, Maya wrote and released 3 yoga music albums, Mayaspace, Mood Mantras and Kundalini Mantras.

In 2003 Maya trained as a Kundalini yoga teacher studying under Shiv Charan Singh at the Karam Kriya School in London. Since then she has developed her own form of yoga, Yoga for Real Life, based on Kundalini yoga. She has been described as “yoga’s Messiah” and “yoga’s equivalent of Nigella Lawson.”[2] Longtime friend, Deepak Chopra, says, “I have known Maya Fiennes for many, many years. She is an extraordinary human being full of vitality, creativity, and enthusiasm but she’s also one of the best yoga teachers in the world and her specialty is Kundalini Yoga. I have experienced it myself, I have seen others benefit from her, and to be in her presence, and feel her spirit and her energy, and her teaching is an extraordinary experience.”[3]

In 2015, Maya launched “The Maya Fiennes Method”, a 7-week online yoga and meditation lifestyle program, comprising of a 7-minute yoga video every day for 7 weeks. In 2018, Maya announced the release of a new yoga dance method she created called “KundaDance”. Maya was named “World Changer June 2018”[4] by Gandhi's Be Magazine. She hosts yoga retreats, workshops, and teacher training courses around the world.
