Mayamma
Alex Mathew (born 1988), better known by his stage name Mayamma,[1][2] is an Indian gay rights activist,[3] feminist, entertainer, and drag queen from Kuttanad, Kerala.[4] Mathew self-describes himself as, "a man on the street and a woman on stage".[5]
Mayamma first appeared on stage as a drag queen on 10 September 2014.[6] He dresses in traditional Kerala clothes and make-up.[7] His family was initially supportive of his drag performances, but later opposed them. His favorite drag actor is RuPaul Charles, and he is said to be inspired by the 2014 RuPaul's Drag Race winner Bianca Del Rio.[6] The character of Mayamma is based on the Malayalam film, Mayamohini, and the Hollywood film, Mrs. Doubtfire.[3] He is also a content writer and has an M.B.A. degree.[6]
