Dr Mayank Vats is a renowned Indian Interventional Pulmonologist, Adult Pulmonologist, Intensivist and Sleep Physician. After Post Graduating with MD in Chest Medicine from J.L.N. Medical College, Ajmer, Rajasthan, India, He was selected as assistant professor of JLN medical college but in order to enhance his career, Professional skills and to provide best critical care to patients, he went on to practice at Escorts Heart Institute and Research Center (EHIRC) at New Delhi to get his Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine. He is a Fellow at the prestigious American College of Chest Physician & Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons Glasgow,UK, American college of Physicians.

After a successful career in the India, He was offered job by one of the reputed private hospital in UAE Zulekha hospital to develop pulmonary, Critical care and sleep medicine in UAE where he established dedicated pulmonary and sleep medicine unit for the benefit of community, then Dr Vats moved to Rashid Hospital, Dubai health authority and at present he is serving as Senior Specialist- Interventional Pulmonologist, Pulmonologist, Intensivist & Sleep Physician at Rashid Hospital and Dubai hospital, Dubai health authority in Dubai UAE. He also serves as editor of many journals and medical organizations such as OMICS[1] and has received many honors & awards, including Saroj Jyoti Award, the prestigious award of Indian chest society in the field of scientific research.

Education and career[edit]

In 1993, Dr Vats started his lifelong medical journey through J.L.N. Medical College, Ajmer and then successfully completed his M.D in pulmonary medicine from J.L.N. Medical College Ajmer (2003) and further continued as Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine from National Board of Examination, (2004-2006) at Escorts Heart Institute & research Centre, New Delhi, India where he was extensively trained in the vast field of critical care medicine.

Simultaneously, Dr Vats completed his DNB (Respiratory Medicine). He was appointed as Consultant Pulmonologist, Intensivist & Sleep Physician at Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi till May 2007 then with his team Led by Dr Naresh Trehan[2] he shifted to Apollo Hospital, New Delhi, to serve as Consultant Pulmonologist, Intensivist & Sleep Physician at till Aug 2009 for the benefits of the patients.

Dr. Vats's main vision and mission for medical profession is to utilize his Professional Knowledge, skills with empathy and tender loving care & Interpersonal Skills in order to Provide Highest Degree of Patient Care, Safety & Satisfaction.

In 2009, Dr Mayank Vats was invited by reputed private hospital in UAE Zulekha hospital to develop pulmonary, Critical care and sleep medicine in UAE, where he established dedicated pulmonary and sleep medicine unit for the benefit of community as Specialist (A)- Senior Pulmonologist, Intensivist & Sleep Physician at Zulekha Hospital[3], Sharjah and then Dr vats was offered a very senior clinical position in Rashid hospital to strengthen and develop pulmonary, sleep and Interventional pulmonoology department, in Rashid hospital under the patronage of Dubai Health Authority. Presently, Dr. Mayank Vats is Senior Specialist - Interventional Pulmonologist, Pulmonologist, Intensivist & Sleep Physician at Rashid Hospital and Dubai hospital and developed Dedicated state of art Interventional Pulmonology Department in Rashid hospital and is in charge of the same unit as well.

Before coming to UAE, he was consultant, Respiratory Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, Sleep Medicine in Escorts heart institute and Apollo hospital, New Delhi, India. Having worked in a busy tertiary level teaching hospital & specialty corporate hospitals as a consultant, He has been exposed to a complete spectrum of Respiratory, Critical Care, interventional pulmonology & Sleep Medicine.

He is a Fellow of American College of Physicians (FACP), American College of Chest Physicians(FCCP), and Fellow and Member of Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons, Glasgow, UK. and European & World association of Interventional Pulmonology and Bronchoscopy.

He serves as Editors on Medical Publishing Journals as OMICS Publishing Group[4] Expert Commentator for ATS articles on COPD ASTHMA, Asso. Editor for (upcoming) Malaysian Interventional Pulmonology Journal, Journal of Thoracic disease, J. of Sleep Disorders and therapy (USA), J. of Lung, pulmonary and Respiratory Research (USA), J. of Vasc. Med. and Surgery (USA) and member of Current medical trends (Indian journal) and has articles printed in various leading new papers and journals[5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15] in UAE & USA.

He has Edited 3 books from Europe (Intech Publisher) titled- Tuberculosis, Sleep Apnea- recent advances[16] and Respiratory Disease and Infection - A New Insight[17] & Co-Authored Book Glucocorticoids - New Recognition of Our Familiar Friend[18]. and two more books are under publication on Non-invasive ventilation: Principles and Practise and Interventional Pulmonology.

Research Interest[edit]

Dr vats have more than 80 international and national publications in indexed peer reviewed journals to his credits including many articles co-authored with the renowned cardiac surgeon Dr Naresh Trehan. and Dr Yatin Mehta, including many peer reviewed articles, original research,case reports, review articles and chapters published in international books and journals. He is presently involved as research in-charge in many ongoing research projects in Dubai UAE and Gulf countries and the academic activities for the specialist doctors in UAE. Dr Vats is an active member of various committees of Ministry of Health, UAE and Dubai Health authority, UAE.

Dr Vats has been extensively trained in the Interventional pulmonology from most prestigious university hospitals from Germany (Thorax-clini, Heidelberg[19], Ruhrland clinic, university of medicine, Essen[20]), Ancona hospital, Italy and Government hospital in Greece, under the guidance of Pioneer Professors of Interventional Pulmonology in Europe (Dr Prof Felix Herth, Dr Prof Eberhardt R, Dr Prof Kaid Darwisch, Dr Schumann, Prof. S Gaspirini ) and has been selected for the prestigious American company Trialect Fellowship in Interventional Pulmonology and Bronchoscopy to be done from Italy.

Apart from this, Dr Vats is a Teaching Faculty for Dubai medical college -for teaching undergraduate students and CO-director of the ARAB board fellowship program in Respiratory medicine in Rashid hospital. Dr Vats is consistently involved in the research and academic activities in Rashid hospital & Dubai hospital, Dubai Health authority,UAE and Dubai medical college REFERENCE, Dubai and writing newspapers, health magazine article, Radio talks REFERENCE for patient education.

Dr Vats has been consistently associated with many philanthropic organization and NGO's working in the field of improvement in education and health in India viz. Biography[edit]

His mother Kamla Vats was an English Lecturer and father Dr Gyan Chand Sharma retired as Director of Archives Department, Rajasthan Government and currently both are eminent Social Activist involving activities like pensioners, Haryana residents, lions club, Brahmin samaj and cancer patients in Rajasthan. His family belong to Nimot, Haryana and currently resides in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

He is married to Dr Deepa Vats[22] who is ENT Specialist (MS) and MBA in hospital administration worked at Al Jalila hsopital as Pediatric ENT specialist Dubai, UAE. They have two daughters Spraha vats and Aadhya vats.
