Mayor of Absecon, New Jersey

Absecon, New Jersey was incorporated on February 29, 1872, as a town. It was reincorporated on March 24, 1902, as a city. It currently operates under the city form of New Jersey municipal government, led by a Mayor and a seven-member City Council. The City Council consists of six members elected from the city's two wards to three-year terms on a staggered basis, with one seat from each ward up for election each year, along with one member elected at-large to a four-year term in office, all of whom are elected on a partisan basis as part of the November general election.[1][2]

Peter C. Elco 1989 2012 He was a member of the Democratic party.[5] He was first elected as Mayor in 1988 and served for 24 years.[6] and was added to the New Jersey League of Municipalities Mayors Hall of Fame in 1998.[7] He also taught English at Holy Spirit High School in Absecon until 2006.
Orvis R. Leopardi 1977 1988 He served for 12 years.
David S. Hodgson 1973 1976 He served for 4 years.
Joseph L. McGahn 1969 1972 He served for 4 years.
Warren C. Irelan 1954 1968 He was acting mayor starting on November 23, 1954, at the death of McCarthy. He served for 14 years, 38 days.
Franklin D. McCarthy 1954 1954 He died in office on November 23, 1954. He served for 326 days.

Edward Armstrong Wilson 1903 1908 Edward Armstrong Wilson was the first Mayor of Absecon, New Jersey. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 2, 1862. He worked as a paper bag manufacturer. He died on Christmas Day, December 25, 1924. He served for 6 years.
