Md Zaved Hossain Khan (Bengali: মো: জাভেদ হোসেন খান) is a professor of chemical engineering[1], specializing in nanotechnology, Nanomaterials, Nanostructured devices, nano-bio sensors, metal-molecule interactions and electrochemistry. [2] He serves as the head of the Chemical Engineering department at Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST. [3] He is also the founder and director of the Laboratory of Nano-bio and Advance Materials Engineering (NAME) an ISO 9001:2015 certified laboratory at JUST. [4] Additionally, he served as the Deputy Director of Centre for Sophisticated Instrumentation and Research Laboratory (CSIRL) of JUST. [5]
Education: Dr. Zaved earned his Doctor of Engineering (D. Eng.) from Waseda University, Japan, in 2011. He received his M.S. degree from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand, in 2007 and completed both his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from Islamic University, Bangladesh, between 1999 and 2005.[6]
Career: In 2013, Dr. Zaved became an assistant professor at Jashore University of Science and Technology. At Jashore University of Science and Technology, Dr. Zaved H. Khan is now the Chairman of the Chemical Engineering Department and a full professor. [7] He founded Nano-bio and Advanced Materials Engineering (NAME), an ISO 9001:2015 accredited laboratory, which is Bangladesh's first nanotechnology research facility, in 2013. [8] He has a very good academic and scientific background and a lots of global experience. Since 2011, Dr. Zaved is one of the leding perosn in Bangladeshi nano-bio research.
In the past, Dr. Zaved worked as a postdoctoral research associate at Tohoku University in Japan[9] and Henan University in China. [10] He served as a Senior Lecturer and Coordinator in the Department of Textile Engineering at Daffodil International University in Dhaka from 2011 to 2012. Before that, he was employed at Waseda University in Japan as a Research Associate on the GCOE project from 2008 to 2011. Additionally, he worked as a research assistant at KIST's Advanced Analysis Center in Seoul, South Korea. [11]
Dr. Zaved has actively participated in international research partnerships throughout his career in Bangladesh, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, China, Japan, and the United States. His work has been published in several prestigious publications and covers a wide range of disciplines. He has also presented at over 100 international conferences as Keynote/Invited speaker. With an emphasis on agricultural nanotechnology, electroanalytical techniques, and nano-biosensors, Prof. Zaved's research is mainly concerned with nanotechnology, biotechnology, and electrochemistry. In addition to being the inventor of 12 patents submitted to the Bangladesh Patent Office, he has published more than 170 research papers in reputable publications. His work has received more than 7,000 citations.[12]
The creation of Nano Urea, a sprayable fertilizer that drastically lowers expenses and environmental effect, is one of Prof. Zaved's most notable inventions. It has been covered by a number of Bangladeshi publications and media. Nano Urea offers an affordable and environmentally beneficial substitute for traditional urea fertilizers, which cost about BDT 4,200 or $34.50 per bigha.[13] [14] [15] [16] [17] [18] [19] By using nanotechnology to compress urea particles to an incredibly tiny size, Nano Urea enables effective absorption through leaf stomata. By reducing waste from leaching or evaporation, this improves the efficiency of nitrogen delivery to crops. In addition to increasing crop output, this accurate fertilizer delivery reduces carbon and nitrogen emissions, helping to achieve zero carbon emission targets. [20] [21] [22]
American biofertilizer businesses are exhibiting a great deal of interest in Prof. Zaved's invention, which is receiving attention both domestically and abroad. In order to conduct cooperative R&D over the next five years, he just inked a number of partnership agreements with US-based businesses.[23] [24]
Awards and honors: Dr. Zaved was awarded Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS) Gold Medal in Physical Sciences (2021) in the junior group.[25] Also Dr. Zaved received UGC Gold Medal in both 2018 and 2019 for outstanding research. [26]
Selected publications: In addition to being the inventor of 12 patents submitted to the Bangladesh Patent Office, Dr. Zaved has published more than 170 research articles in reputable publications. His work has received more than 7,000 citations.[27]
