Measurlabs (Measur Oy) is a Finnish company that provides laboratory testing services through a network of third-party laboratories. The company is headquartered in Helsinki, Finland, with sample logistics hubs in Cambridge, United Kingdom, and Palo Alto, California. Industries served by the company include semiconductors, medical devices, packaging, and construction materials.[1][2] The company has served more than 1000 customers in over 60 countries.[3]

Analysis work conducted by Measurlabs has been featured in several media investigations and research papers, including the January 2025 discovery of drug traces at the Finnish Parliament House by national public broadcaster Yle[4] and the Inka Khipu research by Sabine Hyland at the University of St. Andrews.[5]

History

Measurlabs was founded in 2017 to create a solution to the fragmented market of laboratory testing, where companies often need to work with several external laboratories to get all the tests needed for their R&D, regulatory compliance, and quality control. The company combines the offerings of its 900 partner laboratories into one service, making it possible for its customers to get all the tests they need through one point of contact.[6][7] Before founding the company, the two founders, Teemu Myllymäki and Kalle Lagerblom, were working on their PhDs on biomimetic materials and aerobic catalysis at Aalto University and the University of Helsinki, self-handedly experiencing the challenges of finding suitable providers for the tests needed for their research.[8]

In 2021, the company raised its first round of venture capital funding from Lifeline Ventures. A subsequent funding round took place in 2023, during which Measurlabs raised €2.5 million in seed capital. The round was led by the Greek venture capital firm Venture Friends, with participation from Lifeline Ventures, Tesi (Finnish Industry Investment), and Curus.[9][10][11]

In 2024 and 2025, the company expanded its physical presence in the UK and the US with new sample reception locations in Cambridge and Palo Alto.[12][13]

In media and research

Measurlabs has collaborated with media organizations and academics on several analysis projects:

  • A comparison of 10 baby food products’ nutritional content with the independent Swedish testing organization Testfakta.[14][15] The comparison was featured on Swedish morning television’s Nyhetsmorgon on TV4 in July 2024.[16]
  • Phthalate screening of toys ordered from the Chinese online marketplace Temu, conducted in collaboration with Yle, the Finnish national public broadcaster. Two toys were found to contain restricted phthalates in concentrations exceeding the legal limit.[17]
  • Analysis of drug residues in the bathrooms of the Finnish Parliament House, also with Yle. Traces of amphetamines, ecstasy (MDMA), and cocaine were discovered, and the finding made headlines in several national and international publications in January 2025.[4][18][19][20]
  • Stable isotope analysis of human hair in Inka khipus, suggesting that commoners participated in the khipu production.[5]
