The Meat Department, also known as Meat Dept. is an artist collective founded by French animators and filmmakers David Nicolas and Kevin Van Der Meiren, known for their numerous experimental animated videos and for their participation in the Netflix anthology: Love, Death & Robots.[1]
In 2016, the music video Hand In The Fire (for Mr. Oizo and Charli XCX)was nominated for Best Animation at UK Music Video Awards.[2]
In 2017, the science-fiction comedy Black Holes: How Embarrassing To Be Human premiered as opening film at the Sundance Film Festival[3] and received public and critical aclaim.[4]
In 2019, Paolo Moretti curated the art exhibition Everything Meat Dept. at the La Roche-sur-Yon International Film Festival[5], showcasing Meat Dept.'s work, in particular the installation War of Worlds 2.0, a social experiment featuring a series of fake UFO videos posted on Youtube and social media from 2006 to 2008, including the video UFO Haiti, which made the headlines in 2007.[6]
In 2020, the music video Very Noise (for Igorrr), exquisite corpse inspired by the experience of stroke victims, was awarded in festivals[7] and nominated for Video of the Year by Vimeo.[8][9][10]
In 2021, the short film Automated Customer Service opened the Volume 2 of Netflix anthology: Love, Death & Robots.[11] and won the Emmy for "Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation", going to Meat Dept. member and character designer Laurent Nicolas. [12][13]
