The mediterranean continental climate, also known as continental climate with mediterranean influence (Ds) is a continental climate sub-type that, like the mediterranean climate, has dry summers. As usual, it is a mountain climate where there are steppes and coniferous forests. It should not be confused with continentalized mediterranean climate.[1].
It is common in similar latitudes of mediterranean climate and it is mainly located in the North Hemisphere, Asia Minor, Asia and North America mountains[2]. Although it can appear in austral Andes[3]
Sub-types
- Hot summer mediterranean continental climate (Dsa): Subtropical latitudes. Located in Turkey, Zagros, Pamir Mountains.
- Warm summer or hemiboreal mediterranean continental climate (Dsb): Same locations than Dsa but at a higher altitude. Columbia Mountains, Atlas in Morocco and Sistema Central in Spain.
- Subpolar mediterranean continental climate (Dsc): Short and cold summer. Located in Sierra Nevada, Spain, Chilean and Argentinian Andes, Alaska, Northwest Canada and Northeast Siberia.
- Dry summer hipercontinental climate (Dsd): Extreme climate located in small, unoccupied areas of Siberia.
