Medtinker is an online content platform that provides information on medical topics as seen through other facets of science, culture and entertainment. The organization was launched in January 2018 as a two-man crowd funded organization with the purpose of "bridging the gap between medical science and the day-to-day realities".
The project currently consists of a blog with semi-regular columns on science, culture and entertainment, a growing online community, an online glossary of commonly used medical terms and phrases and a medical consulting and audit program for non-medical projects.
Current Features
Medicine Blog
Currently the website runs two semi-regular columns:
- "Pathology in Fiction" - an in-depth analysis on how various diseases are portrayed in mediums such as literature, video games, movies and TV shows;
- "On Improving Yourself" - primarily dedicated to education and learning advice or otherwise skill acquisition and mastery methods;
- "Healthcare Advice" - information pertaining to various healthcare related subjects.
Medexicon
A glossary of commonly used terms and concepts in medicine. The medexicon seamlessly integrates with the rest of the website using tool-tip overlay plugin.
Medical Consulting Program
Focusing on small to medium-sized projects, the consulting program offers research and audit services for various mediums: game development, fiction writing, video production and others.
Funding
The project relies solely on the principle of crowd funding. Since its inception, on-page advertisements have never been used, instead favoring more user-friendly forms of funding. Medtinker offers various rewards to users who pledge monetary support via the Patreon crowdfunding platform but also offers direct channels of payment through PayPal.
Culture
Medtinker production and all content creation is based on three guiding principles:
- "Simple & Elegant"
- "Always Referenced"
- "Open for All"
