Megan Adele Bernard (born 29 February 1984) is an Australian songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer.
Biography[edit]
From 2002 Megan Bernard was a member of an indie pop trio, Don't Mess with the Pony, in Melbourne alongside Cat Leahy and Suzanne Bass (a.k.a. Suzanne Kinsella).[1][2] They released two extended plays and a double single.[1] Bernard issued her debut solo extended play in April 2012, which Bree Cohen of the AU Review felt showed, "the songstress has all the makings to establish a promising solo career... 'Big Dreams' is stunning in it's simplicity and what strikes me straight away is the song’s chorus. It's so darn catchy!"[2]
Bernard on vocals teamed with Little Wise (a.k.a. Sophie Klein), as a folk duo, where Klein provided lead vocals and guitar.[3] Bernard also undertook a national co-headlining tour from March to May in 2014 with half the set by Little Wise (and Bernard) and half being Bernard's solo material.[4] Her solo single, "Bulldozing", from March 2014 was described by LOTL's Georgie Krokus, "takes [her] sound and song-writing to inspiring new places, filled with sensual and haunting vocals, aggressive sonic attack, elegant lyrical structure and instrument samples."[4] She plays a turquoise blue Stratocaster.[5]
Bernard is a founding member of MEJU, a music production team, with audio artist and record producer, Kalju Tonuma. In 2015 they released two experimental albums with Ollie Olsen.[6] In 2016 Bernard released a music video for her track, "Clean Up Your Life", produced by Tonuma. It was created by Canadian Machinima artist, Bryn Oh, and received a positive response from Second Life bloggers.[7][8] Her self-produced video, "The Muse", was filmed with Nexvio's app 8mm and is one of their featured videos.[9]
She has also played guitar for Jess McAvoy,[10] the State Express and Khristian Mizzi. Bernard released another solo EP, Follow It Through, in August 2016, produced by MEJU.[11] Little Wise issued her single, "Don't Hurry Back", in November of the same year.[12] In April 2018 Bernard joined an ensemble to celebrate the 25th anniversary of "Treaty" with a performance ahead of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.[13]
