Mehman Alakbarov
Mehman Alakbarov (full name: Mehman Ələkbər oğlu Ələkbərov (May 6, 1957 – June 4, 1993) was the Commander of the Ganja Self-Defence Battalion. He participated in various battles and led the Ganja Battalion against the Arabo Battalion.

Mehman Alakbarov was born in 1957 in the Gypsy neighborhood of Ganja. He graduated from the history faculty of Ganja State Institute named after Hasan bey Zardabi. First, he worked as a deputy director of a school in Shamakhi, then as a teacher in boarding school No. 1 and school No. 36 in Ganja.
In January 1990, during heavy fighting with Armenians in the villages of Todan, Sarisu, Chaykend, Mehman Alakbarov, along with his close comrades-in-arms, took part in the defense of those villages. Having established the Ganja battalion, Mehman Alakbarov together with the battalion took part in the defense of the villages of Tartar, Aghdara, Goranboy and Goygol.
The Ganja battalion, led by Mehman Alakbarov, encountered Arabo battalion of the Armed Forces of Armenia in the Hasangaya area. Mehman Alakbarov also took part in the battles in his villages of Gasaped, Drambun, Aterk, Shusha, Lachin and Fizuli regions of Aghdara. Mehman Alakbarov was wounded 28 times in these battles.
Alakbarov was shot dead on June 4, 1993, while trying to prevent a confrontation in Ganja. The commander, who received 18 bullet wounds, died on the spot at the age of 36.
