Mehrdad Ghaffarzadeh (born 1960s) is an Iranian film director, screenwriter, and producer known for his socially conscious films and international co-productions. His work often explores themes of human rights, social justice, and cultural exchange.

Career
Ghaffarzadeh began his career in the early 1980s, writing short stories before transitioning into literary and film criticism. He then moved into making socially and politically focused documentaries.
His first feature film, The Receiver (2011), received multiple awards and nominations at the 30th Fajr Film Festival.[1]
His second feature, The Sea and the Flying Fish (2015), is a social drama about a deaf and mute teenage boy in a correctional camp who communicates through painting. The film was awarded an Honorary Diploma as the Critics Award for Best Film at the 37th Moscow International Film Festival.[2]
In 2018–2019, Ghaffarzadeh co-directed On the Zero Line, a joint Iranian-Japanese film about a poet and a woman who meets him on the equator. The film was screened in Japanese cinemas and featured at the 8th Iranian Film Festival in Tokyo in 2025.[3]
He also directed Sing Me a Love Song, a 2019 romantic drama co-produced between Iran and Turkey. The film starred Yusuf Çim, Afsaneh Pakru, and Pejman Bazeghi and was filmed in Istanbul and parts of Iran.[4]
