Melalo
Melalo is a mythological two-headed bird from Romani mythology. Credited with all acts of rape and murder, it occupies a place in Romani demonology as the de facto instigator of evil, disease and calamity in the world.[1][2][3][4]
Etymology[edit]
"melalo" means "filthy" in Romani.
Origins[edit]
The King of the Loçolici took the Keshali Ana as his wife. Forcing himself on her, their loveless union produced Melalo, a two-headed bird. Upon birth, Melalo goaded his father into continuing to rape Ana, producing the personifications of the various plagues. He took one of his siblings, the hagfish-like Lilyi, as his mate, producing in turn more demons to plague humanity. He tricked his mother into impregnating herself independently from her husband: first to rid herself of the diseases by allowing herself to be licked by mice, resulting one in gnawing its way into her flesh to prduce Lolmischo, and then when she wanted to sterilise herself by suggesting her to bathe in cow excrement, resulting in a beetle crawling into her womb and creating Minceskre.
Role in folklore[edit]
Melalo is used as an explanation for evil in the world. Besides creating diseases, he is also responsible for all acts of violence, sexual or otherwise, by goading or possessing mortals. When not doing this he removes the victims' hearts with his own talons.
