मेलडी माँ आद्यशक्ति माँ पार्वती का स्वरूप है, जब अमरिया दैत्य नाम का राक्षस पूरे स्वर्ग इंद्र लोक में सभी देवताओं को हैरान कर रहा था, तब कोई भी देव उस दैत्य का सामना नहीं कर पा रहा था ।
उस समय सभी देव मिलकर माँ शक्ति पार्वती की शरण में गए, तब माँ शक्ति सहायता के लिए आई और अमरिया दैत्य डरकर मृत पशु के कुंड में जाकर छिप गया ।
माँ शक्ति पार्वती मृत पशु के कुंड में नहीं जा सकती थीं, तभी माँ शक्ति पार्वती ने अपने शरीर से मेल निकाला, और सभी देवी देवताओं ने अपनी शक्तियों का संचार किया उस मेल में और माँ शक्ति का दूसरा स्वरूप माँ मेलडी प्रकट हुए ।
और फिर मेलडी माँ अमरिया दैत्य को, मृत पशु के कुंड से निकालकर, उसका वध किया । तब से उस शक्ति को मेलडी नाम से पहचाना गया ।
