Melladaze are an English-Irish girl group formed in 2020 on the BBC One talent competition Little Mix The Search. The group consists of Aislí Moran, Ellie Allen, Lauren Bowry, Liv Aidam and Megan Whelan.[1]
History[edit]
2020: Little Mix: The Search[edit]
In 2020, the English band was formed on BBC One's talent competition Little Mix: The Search, following the 'Girl dance' group auditions. After their formation the group spent time living together for 8 weeks, while competing on the show. From the submitted online auditions Little Mix picked out the girls who could dance as well as they sing, including Aislí, Ellie, Lauren, Liv and Megan. Thereafter the five all auditioned individually on the show, face to face with Little Mix as their judges. Each of them passed their audition and met up in the band room. Once all contestants were gathered in the band room they passed to the rehearsal stage where they got evaluated once more while singing as a collective. After the five, along with other contestants made it through the evaluation they performed in front of a live stage[2] and the final line up of the girl dance group was decided,[3] consisting of Aislí, Ellie, Lauren, Liv and Megan.[1] After performing a mashup of "Sucker" and "Get Right", the group received 21 points from Jade Thirlwall, 19 points from Leigh-Anne Pinnock, 18 points from Perrie Edwards and 19 points from Jesy Nelson, with 100 points max and each girl handing out 25 points max, the group received 77% of the maximum amount of points. This left them in the bottom two, so they had to battle it out with co-band Jasper Blue. They were saved by Little Mix's judgement after a cover of "We Got Love" and were enabled to proceed to the Semi-Final.[4]
In the Semi-Finals, after having a pep talk with Zara Larsson, the group performed a mashup of "Kings & Queens" and "Where Have You Been". They ranked 2nd place on the leaderboard with a score of 92%, receiving 23 points from Leigh-Anne, 24 points from Jade, 22 points from Jesy and 23 points from Perrie. The score allowed them to move forward to the final.[5]
Before their first performance in the final, Melladaze had a personal talk with Little Mix and took advice from them. Then they performed a mashup of Confident and Kill This Love. Although the judges votes didn't matter in the final where only the public votes matter, Perrie gave Melladaze a score of 92% for their first performance while Jade gave them a score of 93% and Leigh-Anne 94%.[6] Their second and last performance was cover of Get Lucky. For this cover they received a score of 95% from Jade, 93% from Perrie and 96% from Leigh-Anne, minus Jesy who was absent during the finals.[7] In the leaderboard for the finals Melladaze were ranked 4th place, losing ultimately to Since September.[8]
2021 - present: New Music[edit]
Melladaze announced their debut single "I H8 U" on their social media accounts in October 2021; the song was released[9] on 22 October 2021.[10][11]
The single was described by The Honey Pop as "a feelgood post-breakup anthem" and Teen Vogue posted a quote from the band on the day of the song's release: “We wanted to write about the realities of a breakup. You hate your ex, but you miss them too!” the group shares of the track in a media release. “We all go through stuff in our lives, and we wanted our fans to hear a song like this and feel uplifted. We’d been working to find the perfect song for our first release. We’d got a few contenders, but then we wrote this in one session and just knew it was the one.”[12]
