Merve Emre is an associate professor of English at Oxford University, and author.[1]

She holds a BA from Harvard and an MA, MPhil, and PhD from Yale. She is the author of two books: *Paraliterary: The Making of Bad Readers in Postwar America*[2]; and *The Personality Brokers* [3], which investigates the history of personality testing. Her essays and criticism have appeared or are forthcoming in The New Yorker, Harper’s Magazine, The New Republic, The Nation, The Walrus, Bookforum, Boston Review, The Baffler, n+1, and the Los Angeles Review of Books, where she is senior humanities editor. Published works

Emre's first book, *Paraliterary*, published in 2017, is an exploration of the history of literacy in America after World War II.[5]

  • The Personality Brokers* (titled *What’s Your Type?* in the UK)[6] published in 2018, describes the history of the Myers-Briggs personality test, as well as providing biographies of Isabel Briggs Myers and her mother Katherine Briggs.[7]
