Meryl Dorey

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Meryl Dorey is most notable for being the founder and former president of the anti-vaccination lobby group Australian Vaccination-Skeptics Network which she originally founded in 1994. Dorey has stated that her interest in vaccination first occurred when her first child became sick. Out of her four children, the last two were not vaccinated.[1]

Activism[edit]

Woodford Folk Festival[edit]

In December 2011, Dorey gave a talk at the Woodford Folk Festival which caused a controversy due to her anti-vaccination stance. Originally Dorey had been scheduled to talk alone but after pressure from the community an immunology specialist was also brought in. Dorey had previously stated that, "Freedom of communication is guaranteed in Australia" while Chrys Stevenson, a member of the Australian Skeptics, expressed that since taxpayer dollars were used to help fund the festival that Dorey shouldn't be allowed to speak.
