Meshack "Mesh" Alloys (born January 1st, 1987) is a Kenyan entrepreneur, businessman and software engineer. He is the founder and CEO of last-mile package delivery and logistics services company Sendy.[1] An architect by training, Alloys saw an opportunity in open technologies and ventured into emerging mobile commerce, logistics, and digital payments.[2] He is also the co-founder of various other technology companies among them On Demand Mobile Limited, Servetech Systems Limited, and MTL.[3]

Early life and Education

The youngest of four siblings, Meshack Alloys was born in Kenya to Miriam and Julius Ouma on January 1st, 1987. He began learning computer programming at the age of thirteen at Laiser Hill Academy. He took his first computer course at the Institute of Software Technology in Nairobi while still doing his first degree at the University of Nairobi.[4]

At the University of Nairobi Alloys studied at the College of Architecture and Engineering but later lost interest in Architecture and the built environment and pursued a career in digital commerce.[5][6]

Career

In 2008 Alloys set up a software company Merlloyds Technologies that focused on building premium service solutions (SMS, USSD, MMS) on top of telecommunications networks. Merlloyds Technologies was later acquired by digital advertising agency Multimedia Mobile Ltd.

In 2011 Alloys set up another software company MTL with the aim of building digital solutions for logistics and transportation companies, multinational retail consumer goods companies, learning institutions and financial institutions in East and Southern Africa. He exited MTL in early 2014 and founded Sendy in the same year with co-founders Evanson Biwott, Don Okoth and Malaika Judd.[7]

Sendy would go on to be officially launched in January 2015.[8]

Notable Achievements at Sendy

Some of the notable undertakings that Alloys has spearheaded at Sendy include:

  • During the Covid-19 pandemic Alloys launched a home delivery solution through logistics platform Sendy in an effort to boost local traders. Dubbed Sendy Go, the platform gave shoppers access to a wide variety of household supplies from local traders and also enabled them to support families in need by matching every order made on the platform with a donation.[10]
  • Alloys also rolled out a programme to provide quality and affordable health insurance covers for Sendy drivers and their families through a partnership with the Insurance For All (IFA) agency for as little as KSh 81 (US$ 0.80) daily.[11]

Awards and Recognitions

Alloys has over the years received various accolades, awards and recognitions. These include:

  • Won East Africa Pivots, East Mobile Competition, twice.[13]
  • Named East African Young Entrepreneurs to Watch in 2011.[14]
  • Admitted as an Entrepreneur Fellow in the Alibaba Business School.[15]
  • Member of the Entrepreneurs Organization of Kenya (EO Kenya)
  • Named Top 40 Under 40 twice.[16]
