Metal Fabricators of Zambia Plc (ZAMEFA) is a Zambian Industrials company that designs and manufacturers Copper and Aluminium Electrical conductors.[1] The Manufacturing Plant is located in Luanshya town on the Copperbelt Province of Zambia.[2]

ZAMEFA is part of Reunert and CBI group of Companies allowing the Company to expand its offering to electric power, telecommunications and fiber optics cable installations and Applied Electronics Solutions.[1]

ZAMEFA was incorporated in 1969 with Phelps Dodge Africa Cable Corporation owing a 20% Stake in the Company and officially opened as a Rod, cable and wire manufacturer in 1971.[1]

In 1996 when the Company was being privatized, Phelps Dodge Africa Cable Corporation's shareholding had grown to 55%.[1] At the same time, the company celebrated the milestone of Certified ISO 9001 Quality Management attainment.[1]

In 2004 the company became a public company, listing on the Lusaka Stock Exchange and in the same year celebrated the milestone of Certified ISO 14001 Environment attainment.[1] By 2007, General Cable Corporation held a 75% Stake in the Company. A year later, ZAMEFA became the first Zambian Company to attain ISO 18001 Safety Certification.[1]

The Company continued on a growth trajectory when it opened a new Sales and Distribution Center in Zambia's Capital City Lusaka.[1]

In 2014, General Cable decided to divest its Asia Pacific and African assets, among them ZAMEFA. By 2016 Reunert International Investments (Mauritius Ltd) owned 75% of the company.[1]

ZAMEFA is traded on the LuSE under the ticker symbol “ZMFA”.[5]

R.M Chabala the Managing Director and Board Member since 2013, resigned from the Board on 4 May 2021 shortly after her contract of employment ended 30 April 2021.[6]

14 September 2021, the Board appointed a new Managing Director, Kangwa David Bwalya.[7] Mr Bwalya had previously worked for Konkola Copper Mines Plc, whilst it was under Anglo American and also served at PriceWaterhouseCoopers Zambia. Internationally, served as CFO Asia Pacific Region for General Cable Corporation, Business Development Manager (Copper) at RIO Tinto in South Africa, CFO at New Forest Tanzania and additionally Executive Head at Emerged Railway Properties in Zimbabwe. Mr. Bwalya returned to ZAMEFA, a Company where he had spent 10 years and also held the MD position in an acting capacity.[8]

For the fiscal (and calendar) year 2021, ZAMEFA reported a net income of ZMW 51,763,000. The annual revenue was ZMW 2,424,306,000, a welcome change of fortune for the Company compared to the net loss of ZMW 233,974,000 the previous fiscal year.[7]
