Metehan Akbulut
Metehan Akbulut is a Turkish activist, syndicate unionist, researcher, writer[1][2] and medical doctor.
He continues his activities effectively, especially in the Mediterranean Region of Turkey. He demands improvements in issues such as workers' rights[3][4] and health employees.[5] He is also known for his research on Turkish revolutionary Deniz Gezmiş.[6][7][8]
His book named "Kurdish Mehmet" (original "Kürt Mehmet") gives a different perspective to recent Turkish political history.[1]
Biography
He was born in 1967, in Sivas, Turkey.[9] He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of Sivas Cumhuriyet University.[10]
His opinions
He wants legal regulations to be made against work accidents.[11][12] He defines some of the work accidents as "murder".[13][14] And proposed that 28 April be declared as "a day of mourning for worker murders".[15] Furthermore, he argues that the working conditions of medical doctors should be legally guaranteed.[16] He brought up the issues of violence against health workers, and claimed that this was effective even when doctors were choosing their fields of specialization.[17] Also, Metehan Akbulut is striving to make doctors gain union awareness.[18] He claims that education[19] and health services should be free.[20][21] He explains different problems in the health sector in the media.[22][23] Except those, he reacts to many issues that require social responsibility and state measures such as air pollution and environmental pollution.[24]
Some important events
He often participates in actions. An important protest was held against the lack of a new building for the damaged Antalya State Hospital.[25] He organizes rallies to protest the general political attitude towards health employees and to demand improvement in working conditions.[26] In 2006, he was detained by the police for one of his actions.[27]
