Meteorological Directorate of Chile (Spanish: Dirección Meteorológica de Chile, DMC) is a Chilean public body dedicated to the study, information, forecast and meteorological services. It depends on the General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics.
The Directorate considers its founding date to be March 26, 1884, when a supreme decree established the daily communication of meteorological information via telegraph to Santiago.[1][2] Its building dates from 1857.[1]
It carries out the projects for the installation of meteorological stations, the maintenance of the instruments of the national network of meteorological stations and the meteorological equipment of all the airports and aerodromes in Chile.
Inside its headquarters is the Quinta Normal Meteorological Station, the first in Santiago and the main one in the country, in charge of providing the current state and weather forecasts for said commune, the city of Santiago and the Metropolitan Region.
Weather Stations
The weather stations are distributed from north to south, are located in the main macro-zones of the main airports and are in charge of monitoring temperatures and weather conditions 24 hours a day.
