Metraloop
The Metraloop Metal Expansion Joint The Metraloop metal expansion joint is made of flexible stainless steel hose and braid to accommodate lateral offset and angular movement.[1] While a flexible stainless steel hose and braid assembly is made for absorbing lateral offset and angular movement, it is not designed for axial compression or torque. When compressed, the braid is relaxed and its pressure rating lowered, while torque would introduce complex stresses that quickly fatigue the hose.
The Metraloop expansion loop has none of the pressure thrust loads of conventional bellows-type joints and negligible spring rates. It needs minimal anchoring, thrust blocks or structural steel. Due to its low thrust loads and range of movement, the Metraloop expansion joint only requires 2 guides per riser.
Applications The Metraloop can be manufactured in a wide range of configurations in order to meet submittal requirements. The Metraloop's orientation can be changed relative to the piping, minimizing the likelihood of compressive movement.
