MetroResidences is a serviced apartment booking platform operating in the sharing economy space, curating serviced apartments for business travellers. The accommodation types found on the platform comprises serviced residences as well as regular residential apartments. The company was founded on the 1st of July 2014 by two Singaporeans, Lester Kang and James Chua. It is headquartered in Singapore and has offices in Tokyo, Japan [2][3]and Hong Kong [4].

Inception[edit]

In 2014, the founders Lester and James, recognised the market need for affordable long-term corporate accommodation and created the platform to connect business travellers to apartments with services and facilities suitable for them.[5]

Funding[edit]

The company received its Seed funding of S$1 million in December 2015 led by 500Startups[6] and a group of investors to scale the business model in Singapore. Within a year from receiving the seed funding, it is reported that its revenue grew about 400%.[7] In April 2017, the company raised its Series A funding of S$4 million led by Rakuten Inc to fund its expansion to other Asian cities.[8][9]
